Richard Roche | Director of Athletics/Head Basketball Coach | Notre Dame High School

Richard RocheRichard Roche became involved in his profession because he loved kids and loved the game of basketball. His teaching and coaching led to him to become an athletic director and since 2010, he has served as the Director of Athletics and Head Basketball Coach of Notre Dame High School. Prior to this role, he garnered his skills and experience in various teaching and coaching positions with high schools and colleges. He served as the District Athletic Director for Lindenhurst Public Schools between 2006 to 2010 and was the Head Basketball Coach at Hobart and William Smith Colleges from 1993 to 2006. Earlier in his career, he worked as a social studies teacher and head basketball coach at Saint Anthony’s High School. He has also taught and coached at Villanova University, the State University of New York at Farmingdale and the New York Institute of Technology. Prior to working in academia, Mr. Roche worked as the assistant to the Senior Vice President for the Dime Savings Bank of New York.

In his own academic pursuits, Mr. Roche first earned a Bachelor of Arts in history from Hobart and William Smith Colleges in 1987. He then received a Master of Arts in education from Villanova University in 1994. Throughout his career, he has been apart, as well as instrumental in many achievements. In this respect, he considers his most notable recent achievement to be upgrading the facilities at Notre Dame High School as well as upgrading the programs and making them more competitive when he arrived. Furthermore, he is proud of his work and support for the YMCA and the Special Olympics. For his work, he has been recognized as with numerous coaching awards. Looking toward the future, Mr. Roche endeavors to continue working in his field.
